This is the beginning of a fairly new script. I’m not sure what the official name will be yet, but for now we’ll just call it “Mentninja Script.” (Element and Ninja combined. I had another name for them but I had to change it. I’ll probably change the name again later.) Anyway, this is basically the intro and I hope you enjoy it! (I tried to format this to a screenplay format the best I could. If it is unappealing to you or hard to read in this format, let me know and I’ll change the form ASAP. Thanks!)
FADE IN:
INT.ACADEMY-MENTNINJA EMPIRE-DAY
There are about a dozen preteens sitting on the floor with their legs crossed. HANIK, the most powerful lightning Mentninja in the empire, is teaching a class to young children about their culture.
HANIK
Mentninjas have existed for thousands of years. They are people who dedicate their lives protecting others using abilities: lighting, fire, ice, water, wind, and gravity. Only one ability can be obtained. You can tell what a Mentninja’s ability is by looking at the jewel in their sworde.
Hanik takes his sworde out of a special case. It’s a sharp, curved sword with a jewel that binds the blade and handle. He shows the class the jewel.
HANIK
As you can see, the jewel in my sworde is light-purple, which means my ability is lightning. Dark-purple is gravity, light-blue is ice, dark-blue is water, white is wind, and red is fire.
ADRIAN, an enthusiastic and outgoing student, starts to fidget with excitement.
HANIK
You are all here today because one or both of your parents are or have been Mentninjas. These powers have run in your families for many years, possibly since the beginning of time. It’s an honor to be part of this unique bloodline. Don’t take it lightly.
Adrian can’t hold in his excitement any longer.
ADRIAN
My mother was one of the best wind MentNinjas ever, wasn’t she Master Hanik?
Hanik becomes slightly nervous.
HANIK
Well, um, yes…
ADRIAN
That means I’ll be powerful too! I can’t wait ’til I get my ability! I’ll make her so proud…
JA’KAI, Hanik’s very serious son, becomes annoyed with Adrian.
JA’KAI
Silence! Master is trying to teach! You can’t just blurt anything out when you want!
HANIK
Actually, Ja’kai, Adrian brings up a good point.
JA’KAI
Huh?
HANIK
He mentioned power. Now some Mentninjas are stronger than others. Stronger MentNinjas have more difficult responsibilities. They travel more and fight more powerful enemies than the rest.
ADRIAN
Don’t worry Master, I’ll fight enemies, no matter how tough! I’ll do whatever it takes to protect this empire and our alleys!
JA’KAI
It’s “allies” you fool! Besides, I would’ve already defeated them by the time you show up.
HANIK
Now, Ja’kai, it’s not a competition…
JA’KAI
Exactly, I have no competition!
Hanik sighs.
BIRD SONG
HANIK
It appears that we have run out of time for today. Remember, the Sacrament is in a few days. We’ll gather in the Sacradome where you’ll receive your sworde and your abilities will be revealed.
The students cheer with excitement.
CUT TO:
EXT.ACADEMY-MENTNINJA EMPIRE-DAY
The children file out. Adrian runs towards Ja’kai.
ADRIAN
Hey, Ja’kai! Wait up!
Adrian catches up to him. Ja’kai pushes Adrian to the ground.
JA’KAI
I may have to be nice to you in class, but not anywhere else!
ADRIAN
But…
JA’KAI
But nothing! You’re cyanide to me!
Ja’kai walks away.
ADRIAN
I don’t even know what that means!
JASMINE, a compassionate and very skilled student who is also Ja’kai’s training partner, helps Adrian to his feet.
JASMINE
Are you alright?
ADRIAN
Yes, thanks. Why does Ja’kai hate me so much? I just want to be friends.
JASMINE
It’s not just you. He’s like that to everybody.
ADRIAN
Not you. He actually lets you talk to him. He just called my “cyanide.” I don’t know what it means, but I think it’s bad.
JASMINE
Cyanide is…
JA’KAI
Come on Jasmine! We’re wasting time!
JASMINE
Coming!
Jasmine addresses Adrian.
JASMINE
I have to go.
Jasmine runs toward Ja’kai.
JASMINE
Bye Adrian!
ADRIAN
(quietly)
See you tomorrow.
Adrian releases a heavy. Hanik walks up to him.
HANIK
Are you alright Adrian?
ADRIAN
I suppose.
HANIK
I’m not sure what to do with that boy. His passion and determination are second-to-none.
ADRIAN
Well, maybe I should give him some competition then.
HANIK
Now Adrian, I appreciate your…
EMPEROR RANTAL, the strict ruler of the MentNinja Empire, also known as SENSEI, approaches them.
HANIK
Emperor Rantal!
Hanik and Adrian both bow.
ADRIAN
Greetings Sensei!
The emperor ignores Adrian.
EMPEROR RANTAL
Hanik, Jason and I need to speak with you promptly.
ADRIAN
Master Jason is here?!
HANIK
Adrian, why don’t you go to the training arena? Don’t forget, you’ll officially be a MentNinja in a few days.
ADRIAN
How could I forget? ‘Til tomorrow! Bye Sensei!
Adrian runs toward the training arena while Hanik and the emperor make their way to the council building.
Jasmine finally catches up with Ja’kai.
JA’KAI
Why were you talking to him?
JASMINE
Who, Adrian? I was just trying to help him. You know, you should be nicer to people.
JA’KAI
I’ll do what I want. Adrian is weak. He will only deter our powers.
JASMINE
Deter?
JA’KAI
I don’t want you to talk to him again, ever!
Jasmine is silent.
JA’KAI
I mean it, Jasmine. Now hurry, we only have three hours to train.
Ja’kai runs toward the training arena. Jasmine lowers her head and lets out a sigh.
